Astrocamps
The 'Stanley River Field Education Centre' (located near Somerset Dam at Hazeldean) is the Brisbane Astronomical Society's primary Dark Sky Weekend location. The site is an ideal location for casual observing in a dark sky, with plenty of area for using Telescopes, and an almost unobstructed horizon. We share the booking and the use of the site with the South East Queensland Astronomical Society.
It takes about an hour and a half to get there by car from the centre of Brisbane.

Hazeldean Astrocamps are held at the Stanley River Field Study Centre, 3856 Esk-Kilcoy Road
Hazeldean 4515 (next to the Rural Fire Brigade).

FEES
The fee to stay at the camp is $11 inclusive of GST per person per night. We ask people attending to remember to leave the exact amount of money in the large envelope in the kitchen before leaving the site.
FACILITIES
The site has comfortable Bunkhouse accommodation (couple / family / individual), with mattresses for about thirty people at low overnight costs. Good facilities include a kitchen / dining hall, and a shower and toilet block. The Kitchen has a gas stove, fridge, microwave oven, Urn and Sink. But we do not have access to the plates and cutlery.
OTHE ACTIVITIES
In the event of cloudy or wet weather, other activities are available in the kitchen day or night, until clear skies return. During the day you can walk to the boat ramp at Lake Somerset. If you have a boat, you can sail on the lake. There are also some nice drives that you can do in this area.
