What makes the Brisbane Astronomical Society such an exciting group is our friendly and motivated amateur astronomers covering a broad range of interests. We welcome beginners taking their first steps to exploring the skies and seasoned amateurs alike. Our members enjoy and share observing and imaging, organising public viewing events and school nights. Some even take part in international research projects or discover supernovas or variable stars.

Come and meet us at one of our monthly meetings or even better come along to a public viewing night. You can expect a friendly atmosphere, good company, likeminded discussions and practical advice for novice and experienced observers.

This month we'll be heading out to Moogerah Dam. Meet at 4pm for an afternoon BYO BBQ, and then an enjoyable evening of casual observing under the stars. This is a great opportunity for new members to learn a little about the night skies and their telescopes..

The Brisbane Astronomical Society offers our members a number of events to enjoy astronomy under darker skies. Every month near new moon we hold a Dark Sky Weekend away from the city lights.
The public viewing nights are held at the Mount Coot-tha Lookout, just outside the Cafe on a Saturday night closest to the 'First Quarter' phase of the Moon from 6pm until 9pm. No booking required, even some light clouds won’t stop us, as long as you can clearly see the moon, we will be there

Join our members when the Society meets each month. Presentatuiotn are given on on a variety of subjects relating to Amateur Astronomy. Followed by supper usually with tea and cake. Then we'll head outside to observe through telescopes.

Past Issues
School events are organised by BAS in conjunction with and upon request by a school. We give school children and their parents a chance to look through our telescopes and learn about the night sky.

We can also incorporate a astronomy lesson and some observing challenges for students from primary school up to high school level. The events are held once or twice a month for various schools in Brisbane. BAS members are encouraged to help out and pass on some of their knowledge and experience. Find out more by contacting contacting Trevor on education@bas.asn.au

There are many other astronomy clubs in and around Brisbane with friendly and motivated amateur astronomers covering a broad range of interests. They welcome beginners taking their first steps in exploring the night skies and seasoned amateurs alike. The members enjoy and share observing, astrophotography, organising public viewing events and school nights. Some even take part in international research projects; discover supernovas and study variable stars.
